Six Doors Into the Same Building
Every page below describes one kind of session. They share a method and they share a bench, but they answer different questions, and the wrong one costs you money without costing you strokes. If you read nothing else here, read the paragraph after the table.
Start From What Goes Wrong, Not From What You Want to Buy
Almost everybody who calls opens with a club name. That is a perfectly natural way to think about equipment and a poor way to choose a fitting. The club you are least happy with is often downstream of a club you never think about, and the only reliable way to find that out is to work from the damage back toward the cause.

Here is the paragraph. Most golfers who come to us convinced they need a driver session should be booking wedges, and the reason is arithmetic rather than opinion. A better driver saves you perhaps a stroke a round when it goes well. Three wedges that stop chunking save you two or three, and they do it on every round, including the ones where you are swinging badly. We will still fit your driver if you ask. We will just tell you the order first.
What Each Session Covers
Wedges and the short game
Bounce, grind, shaft weight and gapping across three wedges, chosen against real turf on the grass slot rather than a mat.
Book it if pitches come off heavy in spring and thin in August.
Irons and set makeup
Head category, shaft profile, length, lie and where the set should stop being irons at the long end.
Book it if your strike point wanders or the long irons never hold a green.
Driver and the tee ball
Fitted for fairways found rather than best carry, including the flight work a breezy coastal back nine demands.
Book it if one tee shot a round costs you a penalty stroke.
Fairway woods
Sole shape against Bay-side turf, loft ladder above the longest iron, and whether the three wood earns its slot at all.
Book it if the three wood only works off a tee.
Hybrids and the crossover
Where the iron stops and the hybrid starts, measured on carry and stopping power rather than on pride.
Book it if you own long irons you avoid using.
Putter and stroke
Length, lie, loft, head mass and hosel style matched to a measured stroke arc on the roll board.
Book it if twenty footers keep finishing three feet past and left.
Jobs That Are Not Fittings
A large share of what leaves this building never went through a bay at all. Bench work is the unglamorous half of the trade and it fixes more golf than the industry likes to admit, because a correctly specified club that has drifted out of spec plays like a badly specified one.
- Regripping, including tape build-up to a measured hand size rather than a glove label
- Loft and lie checks against a calibrated block, then bending back to the sheet we hold on file
- Shaft pulling and reshafting in heads you already own, which is our single most common job
- Length changes with the reweighting that has to follow them, done together rather than separately
- Swingweight matching across a set that was assembled from several sources over several years
- Ferrule replacement and epoxy joint inspection, which matters more in this climate than inland
The Spec Sheet Is the Product
Whatever session you book, the deliverable is the same document: every length, lie, loft, shaft model, shaft weight, tipping instruction, grip model and wrap count, written down and yours to keep. It is not a quote and it is not a sales tool. It is the record of what was measured and what was decided, and it stays useful for years after the appointment.
Take it to another builder if you like. Several of our clients live closer to Richmond and have the work done there, which is fine by us. The fee bought the fitter's judgement and the two hours of measurement, and both of those travel.
